Heart to Heart Mondays (1) : End of a book series

Heart to Heart Mondays is my new feature where each Monday I will choose a Topic and tell you what I think and feel about it. You voted for the name and I have to say, it is my favorite too. Also, I hope you like the graphic I made. Now, the topics may not be original because most of book related topics have alredy been discussed about on many other blogs but I think it is always nice to see what someone has to say or what their opinion is. When it comes to picking topics I am not the most imaginitive, I dont know why. If you tell me what to write about, I will but it comes harder to me to just choose a topic so I am sorry if it is not unique or creative or inspired, I just couldnt think of anything else for my first HtHM post. Feel free to suggest anything you might want to read about or for me to write about in the comments. Here goes...

End of a book series

It is always difficult when a loved series is ending. The anticipation and excitement sometimes outshine the true feelings you get while reading. I had that happen to me. I was so excited and eager to read the book that in the end I didnt know if I loved it or hated it. I overlooked some glaringly obvious faults just because I didnt really allow myself to see that it could have been done better. After a few days I started to really think aboput what I read and then the disappointment came. How it didnt really end like I hoped it would, the plot would be either completely overshadowed by something else or there wouldnt be a plot at all. How it would be simply nicely packaged with a pretty bow to please the readers or it would completely make no sense. There were series ending books I really enjoyed, books that surprised me or really overcame all my expectations but unfortunately, there were also series that ended with a whimper nit with a bang.

For example, Ignite me to me, was  the perfect ending to a series. It was beautifully written as always by the masterful Tahereh Mafi, everything resolved naturally, as it should have, the plot was believable, no foolish additions just to "spice things up".

And then there is Horde by Ann Aguirre. That woman is on of my favorite authors and that is precisely because of how she ended the Razorland trilogy. Her writing and imagination always astound me, how with a few sentences she can bring so many emotions from me, how while reading Horde I was heartbroken, horrified, frustrated, surprised, sometimes crying of sadness and sometimes of joy. The world she built was simply amazing and the way she ended the story of Deauce, Fade, Tegan and Stalker will always stay with me as one of the best series ending books. Mrs. Ann Aguirre,

Then there are some unfortunate series ending books where the author, for the hell of it or just for the sake of shock value, decided to kill of beloved characters. Finale and Euphoria just to resolve a love triangle. Or Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins..Just ugh. And that is the reason I am afraid to read Allegiant.

There are some books coming out that mean the ending of some of my favorite series The Hollows by Kim Harrison, which is my favorite series of all time is coming to an end this September with The Witch with no Name and I am scared and excited and am full od so many other feels. Ensnared by AG Howard is coming out in January and I am just not sure how I will cope with the loss of Morpheous and that fantastic world inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Or how will I cope when Charley Davidson, Chicagoland vampires, Kate Daniels, Mercedes Thompson, Throne of glass and many others end. I think I will need therapy :)

For the end of this post here are the collages of my favorite series ending books and those not so favorite.

The ones I didnt like very much

So, what do you think? What are some of your favorire series ending books and the least favorite?
Which series ending books are you afraid to read and which are you excited about the most?
Leave me a comment :)

  1. Fantastic post, Lea! I'm with you. It's really hard when the series we loved so much is ending and we can't do anything about it. Mockingjay for me is the worst in The Hunger Games trilogy. Everything was just so messed up and Katniss is not the heroine I came to love anymore. Sigh. I've yet to finish the Shatter Me series but now I'm excited to because you loved it so much. I recently finished the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series and while I loved Dreams of Gods and Monsters, I'm still not sure it would rate so high for me if it wasn't the last book in the series. Feels can sometimes really outshine everything.

  2. A great post! I felt the same way about Horde, it was spectacular how it was done. I was a beta reader for that book, and I remember getting the epilogue in my inbox and crying and crying for so long. It was like Quintana of Charyn, the extended epilogue that is so deeply satisfactory and makes it easier for us to say goodbye. I despise rushed endings, especially in a trilogy where I spend so much time getting invested in characters.
Also, we do not talk about Mockingjay. Ever.

  3. End of series books are always bitter sweet for me; I NEED to know what happens, but the knowledge that it's over once I read the last page breaks my heart. I'm with you on Charley Davidson, Chicagoland Vampires, Kate Daniels & Mercedes Thompson—I will bawl my eyes out if / when the authors decide to wrap them up. I'm really looking forward to AG Howard's conclusion though, because I didn't particularly care of book 2, but I have a feeling Ensnared is going to rock my world!

  4. I completely agree with you about having so many expectations when going into the final book of a series! I loved Ignite Me and it's probably one of my favorite series conclusions ever. I haven't read the Razorland trilogy yet, but now I'm definitely encouraged to.

I wasn't a fan of Othermoon, so I'm not planning on finishing that series. Some series conclusions that I've been holding off on reading because I'm nervous to dive into them include Of Neptune, Champion, and Deliverance. Have you read any of those? Great post :)

  5. Oh I love the topic. I've actually enjoyed Finale for whatever reason. I guess I had patience for mindless teens back then. I really could handle a lot of whiny characters. Gosh I admire myself. But I didn't like Mockingjay back then either, while Allegiant was amazing. I guess I have grown in the meantime (Who am I kidding!). But still you should give it a try! I also have to read City of Heavenly Fire someday. Great post, Lea :)

  6. Love this topic! I struggle with series endings too, it's so hard to see a favourite series end. Allegiant was the worst series ending I have ever read, that whole book was just terrible. I highly recommend just skipping it all together, you're not missing out on much.
