   Cecy Robson

Excpected publication :  July 2nd 2013

Oath bound ( Unbound #3) by Rachel Vincent

The Tower Syndicate will fall...

The secret daughter of the head of an infamous Skilled crime family, Sera Brandt has hidden her past, her potential and especially her powers. But when a tragedy strikes her other family, Sera needs justice. And the only way to get it is to reveal her heritage–including a rare Skill–and take the reins of the Tower Syndicate from her cunning and malicious aunt.

If he can figure out how...

Kristopher Daniels might have the answer. He's fought the syndicate to protect his sisters, but he'd never realized just how close to the new heir he needed to get....

And if they can survive

Neither is used to trusting. But there's something between them that can't be ignored. And so Sera is on the run with a man she can't figure out, a target on her back and the new knowledge of just how powerful she really is....

My review

It is sad to see another one of Rachel Vincent's series end, especially when it is the second one in a month. Unbound series was great from the start though I loved it a teeny bit less that Soul screamers but still a wonderful series that will be missed. For me, Oath bound is the best in the series and Kris and Sera are my favorite characters from these books although I love them all. Cam, Olivia, Kori, Ian, Kenley and Vannesa were also a huge part of this last book. I have to say, Julia Tower is one of the meanest villains I read about and I was thrilled to read about her downfall. The romance part of Oath bound was really weel written, it was building up throughout the story and what I love most about Rachel Vincent's books is that there is no insta-love and her love interests are always well developed, flawed but swoony. The series ends on a happier note but not everything is left perfect and that made everything more real.
I look forward to new books from Rachel Vincent, she always manages to amaze me and surprise me.

An exclusive excerpt from THE LIBERATOR ( Dante Walker #2) by Victoria Scott + GIVEAWAY

Excerpt from THE LIBERTOR

By Victoria Scott

When I open my eyes, the sun is trying to murder me. It’s shining on my face and making my head pound. Or maybe it’s my hangover that’s giving me the headache, but nonetheless—me and the sun?—we’re not on friendly terms.

Charlie murmurs beside me. My arms are still wrapped around her waist, and I suddenly realize I must have crashed out in her bed last night. If Grams wakes up and finds me here, she’ll run me a bath…and toss in the toaster.

“Morning, babe,” I whisper.

“Morning, hot stuff,” a distinctly male voice responds.

I whip around, my heart racing, and find Max sitting in a chair across the room.  “You look so hot when you first wake up,” he says. He raises a hand to his hair. “Got that whole sexy bed head thing going on.”

Charlie doesn’t even move from her place, but I feel her laughing against me. “Your friend is kind of creepy, Dante,” she manages.

“Max, what the hell are you doing in here?” I ask, pulling the covers farther up even though I’m (regretfully) fully-clothed.

“Real question is, why did I wait so long to join you guys?” Max stands from his chair and cocks his head. A mischievous smile crawls across his face.

“No,” I say, trying to appear serious. “Don’t even think about it, dude.”

Max starts running in place, his smile widening farther until he looks deranged. “Ready or not!” Before I can stop him, Max races toward the bed and dives on top of us. “Oh! Oh it feels even better than I imagined.” He rolls back and forth across our bodies as Charlie laughs and I wonder why I’m friends with such a raging idiot.

With all my strength, I grab Max’s shirt and rotate him toward the edge. He falls off the side, his arms pin-wheeling. There’s a loud thud, and then nothing.

I wait for several seconds before leaning over to search for him. Max is lying face down on the floor, his arms and legs curled like a dead spider. “You’re not really hurt,” I say.

“I think you gave me spinal bifida. You need to call someone.”

“That’s a genetic disorder,” I respond with a sigh, collapsing back onto my pillow. A second later, he raises his head very, very slowly up from the side of the bed. It’s one of the more unsettling things he’s ever done.  “Max, is there a purpose to this visit?” I ask. I want so badly to act like he’s annoying me. But he knows, and I know, that we both love this game: the one where I pretend he’s a pain in my ass, and he acts like a damn circus clown.

He stands up, crosses the room, and plops back down in the chair. “Valery sent me.”

I throw an arm across my eyes. “Of course she did.” Beside me, Charlie moves to get up and I immediately reach for her. She squeals and wiggles out of my grasp.

I watch as she walks around the bed and ruffles Max’s hair. The twenty-eight year old pants like a dog. It’s a bit disturbing considering Charlie’s seventeen. She eyes me with a grin. “I’ll make waffles.”

My face lights up.

“Yes,” she continues. “And bacon.”

I glance at Max and nod toward Charlie. “That’s my girl.”

“Damn straight,” he says.

“I’m still making breakfast for your birthday,” I call after Charlie. Then, looking at Max, I add, “My girl’s going to be legal soon.”

Max says, “Boom.”

Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it

My review:
It is no secret I am a huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing and that I worship her books but my favorites are definetly from the Lux series. Both Obsidian and Onyx, along with Shadows, were practicaly perfect and she is the one who has written my favorite male character of all time into life - Daemon Black. I must say that Opal is the best one in the series so far, we finally see Katy and Daemon in a relationship, they (as usual) fight and have disagreements but they are together. Blake is back and after that ending I would happily strangle him. In the aftermath of Onyx, Katy also has to try and salvage her friendship with Dee which will prove to be a difficult task. In Opal lies, betrayals, blood and tears take the front row seat. The ending kicked me in the gut, my heart stuttered and nothing will be the same. I am eagerly awaiting Origin, which will be in both Katy’s and Daemon’s POV so that means it will probably be the best book yet.

Book 1 excerpt

‘So, where are we going?’ I asked, pulling the front door closed behind us.

‘It’s a surprise.’

I shielded my eyes from the brightness all around me, following him down off the porch.

‘Have I mentioned I don’t like surprises?’

‘No, you haven’t,’ he said, with a smile.

I’d expected the Audi, or even the Ford, but a shiny black motorcycle sat by the side of the road. The same one he’d sped away on the day we met. I glanced at him anxiously, but he wasn’t looking at me. If it was possible, he was even quieter than usual.

Suddenly, my fear of riding on the back of a motorbike was the last thing on my mind. I wanted to ask if he was okay, but the words caught in my throat. He handed me a spare helmet.

‘I’ve never been on a bike before,’ I said instead.

‘Are you afraid?’ There wasn’t a trace of humour in his voice, he wasn’t joking or trying to scare me. His question demanded a legitimate answer. I should have been afraid, but somehow I knew this would be yet another thing he did with perfection.

With a small nod, he swung one leg over the seat and straddled the bike.

‘Can I ask a question?’ I ventured.

‘It seems so.’

He smirked and I knew I’d missed some joke again. ‘Where did you get this bike?’

‘It belongs to Nash.’

‘And the Audi?’

‘That’s mine.’

‘How did you afford it?’

‘They’re not stolen if that’s what you’re asking.’

I wasn’t blind to the fact that he hadn’t answered my question, but I wasn’t sure I really wanted to know. It was easier to accept if I didn’t think about it.

‘Hop on, Red.’ Removing his sunglasses, he pulled on a black helmet, so I could see only his eyes. So often overshadowed by his distracting smile, alone they were more striking than I’d ever realised. The problem right now was that they looked sad. He was definitely hiding something. Before I could ask what, he flipped the visor down. I slid silently on behind him.

Once in my seat, which felt further from the ground than I’d anticipated, Kal reached back, taking both of my hands and wrapping them around him. My stomach flipped with the contact, but it was nothing compared to when the engine roared to life and we took off. I pressed myself tightly against him.

Eventually I dared to open my eyes. I doubted that any car in the world could go as fast as the bike and if it did, it wouldn’t feel the same. There was no room in my head for negative thoughts – all I could focus on was the wind, the speed, and Kalen’s firm body. At one point, I felt the front of the bike tip upwards, the engine screamed as we wheeled through a set of lights. I squealed, but it was all good. A jolt of pleasure pulsed through me.

When he pulled to a stop, I slipped off and rubbed my thighs. I’d been gripping so tightly it took a minute for the feeling to come back to them. As I glanced up, however, I became distracted by where we were.

‘Oh, God,’ I blurted, straightening and staring at the airfield in front of us.

‘Don’t panic, Red,’ he smiled crookedly, ‘you trust me, right?’

‘Um... I think so.’

He laughed. ‘Did you know when you’re nervous, you tug at your hair?’

‘No, I don’t.’ I let go of the strand I’d been holding.

‘Yeah, you do. You twist and pull at it. It’s cute. But hey, there’s nothing to be scared of.’

He took my hand then, leading me across the field to a plane that looked small enough to be a toy.

‘Hey, mate,’ Kal greeted the pilot with a handshake and his fake British accent.

‘Morning, Mr Smith. She’s all ready for you both, pack is over there on the ground, as you requested. I’ll give you some time to get sorted. Just hop in when you’re ready. Weather is great for it, which is surprising for this time of year.’

‘Ah, Kevin, I told you not to worry. The weather’s always on my side.’

The pilot hoisted himself into the plane after that, with a fleeting look in my direction. Kalen stepped over to a big piece of material on the floor. A parachute. It looked more like a shiny bed sheet.

‘Don’t we need two of these?’ I asked nervously. Noticing I was twisting the end of my hair, I quickly shoved my hands in the pockets of my jeans.

‘You want to jump on your own?’ he looked up at me with a quizzical expression from his crouched position, where he was running his hands along the material and checking things I had no idea about.

‘Of course not. I’m not even sure I want to jump.’

‘That’s okay,’ he chuckled silently, ‘I’ll jump and you’ll be attached to me so it’s all good.’

‘But what I mean is, don’t we need to be strapped to people who do this all the time?’

‘Yep, you’re looking at him.’

I nodded to myself, another chill running through me. Kalen continued to check the chute without looking up at me again.

When we were in the plane the engine was so loud I couldn’t muster the energy to yell above it and Kalen was without doubt the most excited I’d ever seen him. I pushed away the stirring in my stomach and repeated in my head that he knew what he was doing. Inside the plane was bitingly cold and as though feeling it too, Kalen wrapped his arms around me. The next thing I knew, the pilot was calling out something about twelve-thousand-feet. Kal stood us both up my heart went crashing into overdrive.

‘Are you sure we’re going to be okay, Kal?’ I squeaked.

‘Red, look down there.’

We shuffled together towards the edge, the icy air catching me off guard. I peered out and instantly felt sick. The feeling had no time to linger, however, because as I glanced over the edge, he used the motion to flip us both out the door. My stomach dropped and we were hurtling into the vast expanse of sky below.

Tuff Girl Legion Presents OF SILVER AND BEASTS

The cool sensation of the fresh water on my skin helps me forget my nerves and I lie back, floating just below the top of the water. My body dulls, the cold soothing my sore muscles, and I welcome the numbness. The ceiling of the cave is sprinkled with tiny clusters of white lights, dotting the canopy above our heads like stars in the sky. I feel as if I’m sitting on the rooftop of my apartment, staring at the night sky, not here in the Otherworld, awaiting my death.
The water rolls, rocking my body, and I glance over as Caben floats up beside me. He’s on his back also, and points to the lights dusting the cave ceiling.
“Diamonds,” he says.
“Really?” I don’t know much about any minerals other than mercury. And somehow, diamonds as our stars makes my chest heavy. It’s too beautiful. “How can you tell?”
“The ultraviolet light shows the impurities,” he says. “The imperfections actually absorb the dark light, causing the diamond to emit a visible glow.” He chuckles. “A very expensive lighting effect.”
I laugh. “Quite expensive.” They twinkle as they reflect the rippling water. “But almost more heavenly than the stars.” I lower my voice at the end, hoping he didn’t hear my spoken thoughts.
Caben doesn’t speak, and the trickling of the stream and lap of the pool becomes the only sound as we float in compatible silence. I could drift off, fall asleep in this peaceful place, but I know we still have a mission to complete before the Reckoning.
This thought awakens me, and I touch my feet to the bottom of the pool and begin to wade toward the edge.
I hear Caben’s heavy groan. “No you don’t,” he says, and captures the bottom of my tunic. He tugs me through the water, back to the pool’s center. “Not yet. This could be our last reprieve, and I plan for us to enjoy it.”
As I turn to face him, his fingers slip from my shirt to my waist, grazing my stomach. My skin prickles, and I shiver, matching the trembling water around us. His deep blue eyes meet mine, and he swallows, his Adam’s apple working. Slowly, he begins to inch up my tunic—
“Wait.” I place my hand on top of his.
He cranes an eyebrow. “It should really have time to dry before we go back.”
Logically, that makes sense. But the heated look he’s giving me says so much more. And regardless of the attraction I may feel for the prince—a woman would have to be blind—and whether or not we actually escape this hell ... what then? We share an intimate moment once, and go back to our stations in life, simply pretending nothing happened?
Or maybe I’m reading too much into his gaze. He’s a man, and physical desire is self-serving. He may die ... and he probably wants to bed a woman one last time. Everything about his character screams he’s not one who thinks past the moment.
I could lose myself for now, give in to the pulse quickening my blood with need, but I’ve never shown a man the clamp over my heart. It would have to be something I did for a different reason if I ever chose to do so. Not merely because I may die soon.
As I push his hand away and start to swim off, he grasps my waist, encircling his firm arms around my stomach, and pulls my back to his chest.
“Don’t run from me,” he breathes into my ear. “I’m not asking for anything. Not even whatever it is you’re hiding. Just stay here.”

My Review

I really enjoy Trisha Wolfe’s books and the worlds she creates but the world of Of Silver and Beasts is definetly my favorite. I love the socities she created, the mythology and the whole world is simply wonderful. Especially the Cavan, where women have the power and men are also respected. Kaliope is one awesome character. I admire the ability of Trisha Wolfe to create such strong and independent women who carry a lot on their shoulders yet they still kick-ass on a daily basis and Kalipoe is one prime example. She is fierce, loyal, smart and determined yet she also has a softness to her which she hides. Then comes Caben , the prince of another kingdom, with different rules, so of course their personalities clash, especially when Kal’s new duty is to protect him. Enter a lot of bickering and fights, dangerous situations and a battle to survive, they fall in love. To cut to the chase, Of Silver and Beasts is a book filled with action and passion and many surprises thrown our way and I fiercely recommend it to everyone. It is such a fantastic story.

Crush (Crash #3) by Nicole Williams

A football fantasy. A giant diamond. The modern-day Romeo and Juliet are taking their relationship to the next level. . . .

Jude and Lucy are happily engaged, but that doesn’t mean life’s a bed of roses.

Once again, the hottest couple around is torn apart, this time by football training and a summer job. Now it’s Jude with the trust issues.

Will Lucy’s life-changing news bring them back together or end their relationship for good? Can love triumph forever?

My review

The final chapter in Lucy’s and Jude’s story was the best one so far and a suitable end for this NA series. Jude Ryder is a very interesting character and I loved reading about him and it was awesome to follow this love story even though Lucy frustrated me at time, though she frustrated Jude much more *wink*. I will dare to say that both of them finally grow up, they mature, but since their realtionship  is a very passionate one, fights and jelaousies were inevitable, and Jude sure was jelaous a lot in this book. In the end though, they both face the obstacles thrown at them head on, their love and trust only grow in strenght and they finally get their happily ever after. Also, the secondary characters like Holly, Thomas and LJ really made Crush that much more interesting and emotional.
