The Shape of My Heart (2B Trilogy #3) by Ann Aguirre (eARC Review) + Playlist

Summary:

Some people wait decades to meet their soul mate. Courtney Kaufman suspects she met hers in high school only to lose him at seventeen. Since then, Courtney's social life has been a series of meaningless encounters, though she's made a few close friends along the way. Especially her roommate Max Cooper, who oozes damaged bad-boy vibes from every pore.

Max knows about feeling lost and trying to move beyond the pain he's been on his own since he was sixteen. Now it's time to find out if he can ever go home again, and Courtney's the only one he trusts to go with him. But the trip to Providence could change everything because the more time he spends with Courtney, the harder it is to reconcile what he wants and what he thinks he deserves.

It started out so simple. One misfit helping another. Now Max will do anything to show Courtney that for every heart that's ever been broken, there's another that can make it complete.

My Review:

Check out my reviews for the first two books in the trilogy I want it that way and As long as you love me

As always, Ann Aguirre delivered a compelling story and interesting characters, all with a bit of humor and sexy times. What I love most about this series that it is so real, no unnecessary drama and angst, no cliches and most of all, charactres that feel so genuine. That was also the case with the main characters of The Shape of my Heart, Max and Courtney. From few interactions with them in the first two books, I had a feeling their story will be the most interesting to me, and I was right. Those two are roomates and best friends, spending days going to college, watching movies and playing video games.

Things start to turn for them when Max s grandfather dies and he has to go to the funeral and asks Courtney to go with him. On the road trip, they get even closer and they find out stuff from their pasts that no one knew. A little while later, they also realize they have strong feelings fo0r each other and they try to make a relationship work.

I love the story in this book, two different people on the surface supporting each other and fighting for each other and realising that maybe they are not so different after all. Both carry pain from the past, different, but it tied them together and brought them closer. I loved the romantic things Max does for Courtney in this book, it was just so sweet and unexpected. Also, the steamy scenes were awesome and I loved the drama that is in this book, because it was perfect for this couple. In the end I have to say that the writing is perfect, as always and that every book by Ann Aguirre I read, I loved so in the end there is nothing I can say to one of my favorite authors but -

And I'll do anythin' you ever dreamed to be complete
Little pieces of the nothin' that fall
Oh, May
Put your arms around me
What you feel is what you are
And what you are is beautiful
Oh, May

And the thrill of the chase moves in mysterious ways
So in case I'm mistaken,
I just wanna hear you say you got me baby
Are you mine?

She's a silver lining lone ranger riding through an open space
In my mind when she's not right there beside me
And I go crazy cause here isn't where I wanna be

No more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world

It's just a moment, go and seize it
Don't be afraid to give your heart to me
And if you do,
I know that I won't let you down, no, yeah,

So hand it over, trust me with your love
I'll do anything you want me to
'Cause I can't breathe until I see your face

I think I'll pace my apartment a few times
And fall asleep on the couch
Wake up early, the black and white re-runs
That escape from my mouth, oh

All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you
All I wanted was you

I could follow you to the beginning
Just to relive the start
Maybe then we'd remember to slow down
At all of our favorite parts

Right from the start
You were a thief
You stole my heart
And I your willing victim
I let you see the parts of me
That weren't all that pretty
And with every touch you fixed them
