Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunter #7) by Nalini Singh

Summary:

Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s sensual and painfully beautiful Guild Hunter world in her new novel of sacrifice, loyalty, and the choices of love that can shatter the heart.

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot— should not—be walking the streets.

This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves…

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there’s one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash’s secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

My Review:

“I’ll show you things that’ll make you laugh in delight, scream in passion, cry for the sheer joy of it.”

Nalini Singh has written one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series ever, and that is Guild Hunter series. It began with Elena and Raphael in the first three books, then we got stories from Dmitri and Honor and Jason and Mahiya and all those were awesome but I started to wonder about some characters and Ashwini and Janvier were one of those so I am super glad they got their story.
We heard about these two through the whole series, their amusing antics and weird flirting but we finally get to see the whole picture. They met when Ash was assigned, as a Guild Hunter, to hunt down Janvier, a Cajun vampire, since he broke his Contract. They do this dance a few times, without Ash managing to cathc him or him miraciously mending the relationship with the angel holding his contract. There was always sexual tension between the two but Ash always tried to distance herself due to the horrible past and unknown future but hopefully, Janvier was persistent.
I loved their banter, the loyalty and potential between them and especially when they finally decide to try being together. I was mad about the past Ash had to live through but was happy that Janvier was there for her. I also loved the glimpses of Naasir, he is quickly shaping up to become my favorite character, along with Bluebell (Illium) and Aodhan, of course. He is mysterious, charming and fun. I cant wait for his story and from the others of The Seven. Nalini Singh never disappoints, she created an amazing world full of wonderful characters and her writing is only getting more awesome with every book. If you havent started this series, you should. A lot of amazing in this series.
