Boomerang (Boomerang #1) by Noelle August (Review and my playlist)

Summary:

Welcome to Boomerang.com, the dating site for the millennial gen with its no-fuss, no-commitments matchups, and where work is steamier than any random hook-up

Mia Galliano is an aspiring filmmaker. Ethan Vance has just played his last game as a collegiate soccer star. They’re sharp, hungry for success, and they share a secret.

Last night, Ethan and Mia met at a bar, and, well . . . one thing led to another, which led to them waking up the next morning—together. Things turned awkward in a hurry when they found themselves sharing a post hookup taxi . . . to the same place: Boomerang headquarters.

What began as a powerful connection between them is treated to a cold shower courtesy of two major complications. First, Boomerang has a strict policy against co-worker dating. And second, they’re now competitors for only one job at the end of summer.

As their internships come to an end, will they manage to keep their eyes on the future and their hands off each other, or will the pull of attraction put them right back where they started?

My review:

"We stay there, just breathing the same air for a few seconds, making a little pocket of shadow in the brightness that surrounds us.
This has to be our secret, or we could lose everything."

What a sweet and fun read. This is definetly one of my favorite New Adult books and a perfect summer read, light and enjoyable. When I first hear of this collaboration, I was thrilled. I wasnt familiar with Lorin Oberweger but I was with Veronica Rossi and I love her Under the never sky series so I was curious to see how a contemporary new adult read will turn out and I am glad. Boomerang is a  great representative of New Adult and Chick - lit genres, I read it on the beach and it made my day.
The story begins with Mia waking up in a guys bed after drinking too much the night before and she is being late to her new internship at an online dating company. It turns out the guy she met and connected with the night before, Ethan, will be working there as well and they will be competing for only one position available.

I loved them both. It is obvious from the first awkward scene that these two shared a real connection, not just physical, and are fighting it to not lose an incredible opportunity. They both needed the job for different reasons, both equally important .
They are both intelligent and creative in different ways, people, Mia pursuing her filmmaking and Ethan trying to find a way to pay his student loans while doing the internship and coaching soccer to 9 – year olds.
I loved insight into their regular lives, Mia s roomates and friends Skylar and Beth and her awesome parents and Ethan s roomate Justin and his girlfriend Isis
and his past with Allison, the girl who broke his heart. Both Mia and Ethan are amazing people, trying to fight for their future but everything was just done in a fun way, there was no heaviness in this book and I loved that, even though there were a few emotional scenes, it resolved quickly and happily.

There were some hilarious situations, with Mia and Ethan s coworkers Rhett and Cookie and some misunderstandings, some pretty steamy scenes and a few sweet ones.  The plot may not be the most original but it was done in a new way and the characters are what make this story special. The sequel will come out this year, it is called Rebound and it will be the story of Mia and Ethan s boss Adam and Ethan s ex - girlfriend Alison and I am really interested to see how that will play out since Alison is not a particularly lovable character and Adam is great.
In the end, if you need a nice summer beach reading or just want to relax with a fun book,  Boomerang is perfect for that. The characters really bring life to this story so I really enjoyed it.

"The minute you put my panties in the toaster oven, I knew you were the one."

And here is my playlist for this book, this time with some lyrics. Enjoy and tell me what you think :)

Despite the pretty dress and curls
You don't throw like other girls
You follow through

But I'll come on back
Cause I know
Though you meant to let me go
I could always be your boomerang

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

If you feel like you been here
So many times before
It's not the door you're using
But the way you're walking through it

Cause the heart is a beating drum
The heart is a beating drum
It takes more than you wanted before
To keep it on, it's a beating

I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweet

Nothing compares to a quiet evening alone
Just the one-two of us, who's counting on
That never happens
I guess I'm dreaming again
Let's be more than this
If you want to play it like a game
Well, come on, come on, let's play
Cause I'd rather waste my life pretending
Than have to forget you for one whole minute

It might be impractical
To seek out a new romance
We won't know the actual
If we never take the chance
I'd love to collapse with you
And ease you against this song
I think we're compatible
I see that you think I'm wrong
But anytime will do
My love
Anytime will do
No choice of words will break me from this rule

za nju, zbog nje,
ja ucinio bih sve sve u mojoj moci
cekao bi kad će mi doci
za nju zbog nje obojao bi ulice
u njene najdraze boje da stvorim sansu za nas dvoje

kada jutro sivo je nosim sretne cipele
gledam sve kroz kaleidoskop.
svijet je prepun prilika more zelja imam ja
sve bi ih ostvario sa njom.

I can see a lot of life in you
I can see a lot of bright in you
And I think the dress looks nice on you
I can see a lot of life in you

About the authors

NOELLE AUGUST is an anagram for Veronica Rossi and Lorin Oberweger. Just kidding, it’s a pen name!
VERONICA ROSSI is the author of the New York Times Best-selling UNDER THE NEVER SKY trilogy for young adults. The books are available in more than thirty countries and the film rights have been optioned by Warner Bros.
Veronica completed undergraduate studies at UCLA and lives in Northern California with her husband and two sons. She is fond of dresses with pockets, fluffy dogs, and cheese and chocolate — but not together.
LORIN OBERWEGER began her storytelling career by captivating her first-grade class with tales of her summers on a kibbutz in Israel.
Lorin had never been to Israel.
While teacher/parent night put an end to her first experiments in fiction, she’d already caught the bug and eventually made a career of all things story.
As a long-time independent editor and story development guru, Lorin’s client successes range from small press publications to major bestselling novels. She’s an award-winning author and has also worked behind the scenes as a ghostwriter on a variety of projects. Her work has received starred Kirkus reviews and glowing mentions in The New York Times.
Oh, she did get to see a kibbutz, eventually, and found out she had it pretty much right all along.
Veronica and Lorin met at a writing workshop and just knew they were destined to create awesome things together.

  2. I started reading this awhile back, but had to take a break from it, b/c of other commitments. I'd actually kind of forgotten about it, but I liked what I've read so far, so thanks for the reminder ;)
