Horde (Razorland #3) by Ann Aguirre

Summary:

The epic conclusion to the USA Today bestselling trilogy.

The horde is coming.

Salvation is surrounded, monsters at the gates, and this time, they're not going away. When Deuce, Fade, Stalker and Tegan set out, the odds are against them. But the odds have been stacked against Deuce from the moment she was born. She might not be a Huntress anymore, but she doesn't run. With her knives in hand and her companions at her side, she will not falter, whether fighting for her life or Fade's love.

Ahead, the battle of a lifetime awaits. Freaks are everywhere, attacking settlements, setting up scouts, perimeters, and patrols. There hasn't been a war like this in centuries, and humans have forgotten how to stand and fight. Unless Deuce can lead them.

This time, however, more than the fate of a single enclave or outpost hangs in the balance. This time, Deuce carries the banner for the survival of all humanity.

My review:

“Beautiful. And ugly. The world is always both.”

When I first picked up Enclave, the fisrt book in the trilogy, I wasnt prepared for it. I read a few reviews but I didnt know I would love it so much. So, with a heavy heart, it is time to say goodvye to yet another favorite series of mine and the characters who will always be with me.
Horde starts where Outpost ended, with our favorite group ( Deuce, Fade, Stalker and Tegan) going for help to another settlement since the horde is upon Salvation. In Soldiers pond they receive reinforcements, although not enough and when they return to Salvation, it is in ruins. That is when the real story of Horde begins, with Deuce and the others traveling from setttlement to settlement in search of people who will join their army and to try and defeat the horde. Amidst all of that there is Fade recovering from his "stay" with Freaks, Deuce missing him and trying to help him along with dealing with suddenly being in charge, Stalker who is trying to get over Deuce so they could be friends and always reflecting on how he and his gang have treated Tegan and his guilt. Then there is Tegan, always working, trying to imrove and not be a burden, helping others and tending to the wounded and always thirsting for knowledge.

“But wishes were empty thoughts, cast down a dark hole. They didn't come true unless you worked for them. I'd learned that about the world, if nothing more.”

Horde is dark, full of blood and gore, all out war, we see some dear faces die, yet there is hope in the shape of younger group of Freaks, who shocked me and certainly shocked Deuce when they spoke and didnt attack. I cried a lot while reading, one death hit me hard, yet at the end I was very happy for the rest. We see Stone and Thimble again, we see there is a way to leave in peace, we see love can really overcome the greatest obstacles and that kindness always matters, no matter how small the gesture. A perfect end for an amazing series. I appalud you, Ann Aguirre :)

“Sometimes it felt as if all happiness came at a price. You could never, ever, have perfection. Life gave you beauty so you could bear the pain.”
