Unchained (Nephilim Rising #1) by J. Lynn
Synopsis:
Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm.
The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.
Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.
Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything—and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.
Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.
My review
I always love reading books with angels and Nephilim and I dont remember if I ever read one that I didnt like. So, a few years ago, when Jennifer L. Armentrout announced Unchained, I was excited. Everyone who reads this blog knows that I am a huge fan of hers and that I will read everything she writes so excited is probably an understatement. So, it needs to be said I waited a long time for this book and as usual JLA did not disappoint but why am I even surprised? Unchained was in a word - awesome. I love the world she created, Nephilim fighting the fight for the good side, hunting down fallen angels and their minions. There is a bit of mistery here, who is the traitor, Lilly falling for the ``enemy``, and plenty of secrets revealed. Lilly, who is a Nephilim, is a badass character, she fights for what she believes and doesnt let anyone tell her what to do. I love how JLA always manages to write into life the strong, capable female characters, there are no damsels in her books. Julian, the fallen angel, is so swoony and perfect and yummy I just sighed whenever he was in the scene. These two are perfect together and I cant wait to see how their relationship will progress. Michael, the rookie Nephilim Lilly found, is a very interesting character, and reading the chapters in his POV was really great. I have a few suspicions regarding him but I will have to wait the 2nd book to see if I was right. I was surprised a few times, especially with the traitor, the writing was great as usual and I cant wait to see what JLA has cooked up next.
