Starters by Lissa Price
Summary:
HER WORLD IS CHANGED FOREVER
Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie's only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man.
He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie's head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator's grandson. It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations' plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined. . .
My review:
This is one of the few dystopian novels I´ve read, and like Divergent and Delirium, it blew me away. The story is very original and interesting and it sucks you right in. I find the idea of Starters, Enders and body banks very refreshing, unique and I was into the whole story from the very first page. Callie, books main character, is a likable, smart and resorceful character and you cant help but support her every step of the way. The book is full of surprises, action and it has a little bit of romance. I really liked Callie´s younger brother Tyler for whom Callie goes to extreme measures to protect him, and her friend Michael, with whom I hope she will end up in the end. Blake, in the end, was not who I thought he was so I didn´t really get to know him but my gut tells me not to like him.
Starters is an amazing book and a fantastic debut so if you like dystopia, you should read it. Seriously. It blew my mind.
