Some loves will last ‘til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust. Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction. Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

 EVERY LAST BREATH Excerpt

Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie, look…look at your hand.”

Look at my hand? Why in the world would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?

“Do it,” he said quietly and too gently.

The dread exploded in my gut like buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.

“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I had shifted.

Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”

“What about my wings?” I almost screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand jerked back. “What…”

Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to look in it.”

I met Roth’s gaze for a second before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.

I looked normal, like I did before I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what caught my attention and held it.

It was my wings.

They were large, not as massive as Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny feathers.

Feathers.

“Oh my God,” I whispered at my reflection. “I have feathers.”

“Those are definitely feathered wings,” Roth commented.

I whipped around, knocking over a lamp with my feathered right wing. “I have feathers on my wings!”

Roth cocked his head to the side. “Yeah, you do.”

He was absolutely no help, so I turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”

Zayne shook his head slowly. “I don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”

Quote of the week (11): Paper Towns by John Green

I wanted to read the book before going to see the movie and I am not sorry I did. Say what you want about John Green, he is a great writer and his stories are never what you expect them to be. This is his 3rd book I read and the 3rd book I loved. I read it a few days ago and it is full of lovely quotes but I had to decide on one.

“And all at once I knew how Margo Roth Spiegelman felt when she wasn't being Margo Roth Spiegelman: she felt empty. She felt the unscaleable wall surrounding her. I thought of her asleep on the carpet with only that jagged sliver of sky above her. Maybe Margo felt comfortable there because Margo the person lived like that all the time: in an abandoned room with blocked-out windows, the only light pouring in through holes in the roof. Yes. The fundamental mistake I had always made—and that she had, in fairness, always led me to make—was this: Margo was not a miracle. She was not an adventure. She was not a fine and precious thing. She was a girl.”

Have you read this book or any other John Green book?
What did you think?
Have a great weekend!

Thursday Tracks: Walking with strangers

Thursday Tracks is hosted by Gone with the Words so check out the tracks from other bloggers on her site.
As The Birthday Massacre is one of my favorite bands, I love their lyrics and the music, so I decided that today I am going to post their song I listened to most lately. They releases a lot of great albums with a lot of great tracks and many became favorites of mine during the years so I hope you give them a listen.

"Walking With Strangers"

Look around for a means
To dissuade her attention
Can't remember the places
And names that she mentions

My words are falling apart in spite of me
I'm stepping out of the light
So she can't see
Don't think I'll miss her
But I want to take her picture
When I found a place
Where she can't find me

And she's falling asleep
As she's walking with strangers
Talking cheap
As the flies on the wall entertain her

Her world is falling apart in front of me
She's stepping into the light
But she can't see
It's hard to miss her
When she's posing for a picture
But I found a place
Where she can't find me

My words are falling apart in spite of me
I'm stepping out of the light
So she can't see
Don't think I'll miss her
But I want to take her picture
When I found a place
Where she can't find me

Waiting on Wednesday (86)

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming  releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This is my choice for this week:

From Russia With Claws
by Jacey Conrad and Gia Corona

Expected publication: August 18th 2015 by Omnific Publishing

When Alpha female Galina Sudenko agreed to attend her distant cousin’s birthday party, she wasn’t counting on meeting the devastatingly handsome and powerful Rom Alpha, Andrey Lupesco, or having her sexy times with him interrupted by the murder of her idiot brother-in-law, Sergei. But such is life when your father is one of the most powerful werewolves within Seattle’s supernatural Russian organized crime syndicate.

Not content with being just a pretty face and good breeding stock, Galina sets out to make her mark within the family. But in doing so, she runs afoul of her eldest brother, Alexei, the heir apparent to the family dynasty. He has no intention of ceding his position without a fight.

Andrey and Galina’s burgeoning romance is threatened when she discovers that before his death, Irina’s husband, Sergei, hijacked Andrey’s shipment of the werewolf drug, Bullet, a synthetic drug that gives the supernatural creatures a cocaine-like high. Sergei’s theft means that Andrey had a reason to have Sergei killed, leaving Galina to decide whether to risk trusting Andrey even as her feelings for him deepen.

As her brother Alexei’s behavior becomes more erratic, Galina must find the missing shipment, prove to her family that she’ll be a capable leader, and decide whether her lover Andrey can be trusted before she can hope to challenge her brother for his position as head of the family.

A tale full of sexy werewolves, forbidden love, family power struggles, and danger closing in, Gia Corona and Jacey Conrad's From Russia With Clawswill leave you howling for more!

I am super excited for this book!

eARC Review: Spider's Trap (Elemental Assassin #13) by Jennifer Estep

Summary:

The next thrilling book in Jennifer Estep’s New York Times andUSA Today bestselling Elemental Assassin series—“an extraordinary series… One of the most intriguing heroines in the genre” (Romantic Times Book Reviews).

Keep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.

One important lesson I’ve learned in the assassination business is that to be the best you have to roll with the punches. Now that I’m queen of Ashland’s underworld—by default, not by choice—a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that’s the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld’s top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.

My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I’m embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death…

Expected publication: July 28th 2015 by Pocket Books

My Review:

The 13th book in  the Elemental Assassin series starts pretty funny, with Gin at the helm of the Ashland underworld and having to mediate with the criminal bosses of the city but they are really testing her patience which was really funny to read.
But, as always, things go bad for Gin... and her friends. The villain in this book was particualarly nastly, he really creeped me out.

And there were some heartbreaking moments. I was a little afraid and it was a really emotional moment for Gin.

As the big boss now, Gin is having a lot on her plate but she is as kickass as ever, even more so. We also see some flashbacks from Gin with Fletcher and those are always really great. This series is getting better and better. Gin is evolving and so are her relationships and I am curios to see her now that she finally accepted that she rules the criminal world and how will it further affect her life.

Playlist: Finally, Forever (First Comes Love #3) by Katie Kacvinsky

“The rain picks up outside. It hits and slams against the window, but I think it sounds like music--a light mix of tambourine and cymbals. The wind sounds like a guitar, all low, melancholy notes. Thunder takes the drums. I'm quiet as I listen to the song.”

The story of Dylan and Gray made me smile, made me laugh, then it made me swoon, and of course, cry. Their story is a beautiful one, one of growing up, never stop believeing in yourself, learning to let go and take a chance and mostly about love. It is written beautifully and it is just one of those stories whose soundtrack you hear in your mind while reading.

Shout when you wanna get off the ride
Shout when you wanna get off the ride
Shout when you wanna get off the ride
'Cause you crossed my mind
You crossed my mind
Made my blood thump 7-8-9.
Make my heart beat double time
Now I'm only sour cherry on your fruit stand, right?
Am I the only sour cherry on the fruit stand?

Dressed to kill, you look so right
I am drunk with lust tonight
Your wounds are opening wide
And they might be just...

There was always
Warmth between us
There was always
Warmth between us

(Do I wanna know)
If this feeling flows both ways?
(Sad to see you go)
Was sort of hoping that you'd stay
(Baby we both know)
That the nights were mainly made for saying things that you can't say tomorrow day
Crawling back to you

What you get is what you see
It won't take much to get hooked on me
So shoot me right into your skin
And I will be your heroin

The side effects are sexual
Are you dying for a taste?
The side effects are sexual
And you love the way I say

Two hearts beating
One beats the other
While the other just looks away
Two hearts dreaming nightmare
Nothing more, nothing left to say

I felt you in my life
Before I ever thought to
Feel the need to lay down
Beside you
And tell you
I feel you in my heart,
And I don't even know you
And now we're saying
Bye, bye, bye
Now we're saying
Bye, bye, bye

So that's why you've got to try
You got to breath and have some fun
Though I'm not paid I play this game
And I won't stop until I'm done

But what I really want to know is
Are you gonna go my way ?
And I got to got to know

We are strong
No one can tell us we're wrong
Searching our hearts for so long
Both of us knowing
Love is a battlefield

You're begging me to go
Then making me stay
Why do you hurt me so bad
It would help me to know
Do I stand in your way
Or am I the best thing you've had

Believe me
Believe me
I can't tell you why
But I'm trapped by your love
And I'm chained to your side

We are young
Heartache to heartache we stand
No promises
No demands
Love is a battlefield

Bojim se misli
Truju me i grizu
Mirna sam samo kada sam ti blizu
Ako me pustis ostat cu bez snage
Ako jos tvoje dobrote ne ukradem

Ti si jedino moje vazno
Sve drugo ostaje prividno i lazno
Sve je toboze

Baby I'm thinking it over
What if the way we started made it something cursed from the start
What if it only gets colder
Would you still wrap me up and tell me that you think this was smart
Cuz lately I've been scared of even thinking 'bout where we are

Have you read this series?
What do you think of my playlist?
Have a great weekend!

“We are shaped so much by the events in our lives, but even more than that, we’re shaped by the people that come in and out of our lives.”
