Waiting on Wednesday ( 10 )

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This is my choice for this week:

Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2)
byVeronica Rossi

Expected publication: January 8th 2013 by HarperCollins

A world-defying love is put to the ultimate test in the heart-stopping sequel to Veronica Rossi's "masterpiece," Under the Never Sky. (Examiner.com)

It's been months since Aria last saw Perry. Months since Perry was named Blood Lord of the Tides, and Aria was charged with an impossible mission. Now, finally, they are about to be reunited. But their reunion is far from perfect. The Tides don't take kindly to Aria, a former Dweller. And with the worsening Aether storms threatening the tribe's precarious existence, Aria begins to fear that leaving Perry behind might be the only way to save them both.

Threatened by false friends, hidden enemies, and powerful temptations, Aria and Perry wonder, Can their love survive through the ever night?

In this second book in her spellbinding Under the Never Sky trilogy, Veronica Rossi combines fantasy and dystopian elements to create a captivating love story as perilous as it is unforgettable.

Destroy Me (Shatter Me #1.5) by Tahereh Mafi

Summary:

Perfect for the fans of Shatter Me who are desperately awaiting the release of Unravel Me, this novella-length digital original will bridge the gap between these two novels from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .

Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.

Set after Shatter Me and before its forthcoming sequel, Unravel Me, Destroy Me is a novella told from the perspective of Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

My review:

Tahereh Mafi has such beautiful and unique style of writing. “Shatter me” was amazing, I loved the way she wrote it and how she perceived Juliette. Of course, with Warner it was different. He is a different person yet in a way so similar to Juliette. Warner,ah Warner. I love him even more now when I have an insight of his mind. I think that we see now that he and Juliette would have been perfect for each other if the circumstances were different for Warner. We see why he is the way he is, how he thinks and what he feels. I´m pained for him. I hope he changes some of his plans but I know I am folish to hope. I absolutely love his character, his mind is an interesting place but the most interesting parts of the novella to me were his thoughts of Juliette and his feelings toward her and the clarification why and how he did some things to her.

I am really anxious to read Unravel me now when I learned a few things in “Destroy me” and I look forward to Mafi´s words and sentences and paragraphs. I think she is the most interesting young author and her words are the words of future.

Sweet evil read along week 4: Halloween

This week we are reading from chapters 26 through 31. One of these chapters have my favorite scene sin this book. Can you guess? It includes Kai, Anna and no talking. I cried so much the first time I read this scene. So, since Halloween in Croatia is not a huge holiday like it is in USA, it has been becoming more popular in the last few years. I am going to be having a few friends over for movies and series marathon probably and these are on of my favs:

My top 5 Halloween movies

1.       Queen of the damned

2.       The nightmare before Christmas

3.       The Corpse bride

4.       Underworld

5.       Intervju with a vampire

My top 5 Halloween songs
1.       Marilyn Manson – This is Halloween
2.       Korn – Kidnap the Sandy Claus
3.       The perfect circle – Counting bodies like sheep int he rythm oft he war drums
4.       Theatres des vampires – Blood addiction
5.       The Birthday Massacre – In the dark
Also, I will probably have a Supernatural and True blood marathon with my friends. Those are great shows for Halloween. I am sure we will have fun. I hope all of you reading this do.

Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally

Summary:

Red-hot author Miranda Kenneally hits one out of the park in this return to Catching Jordan's Hundred Oaks High.

After her family's scandal rocks their conservative small town, 17-year-old Parker Shelton goes overboard trying to prove that she won't turn out like her mother: a lesbian. The all-star third-baseman quits the softball team, drops 20 pounds and starts making out with guys--a lot. But hitting on the hot new assistant baseball coach might be taking it a step too far...especially when he starts flirting back.

My review:

Since I liked Catching Jordan, Kenelly´s debut novel, I was excited to read her second book, about different people in a same setting. We see some characters from the first book, like Jordan and Henry. I liked this story, Parker is way different than Jordan, and has different problems, most of which come from a fact that her mother came out of thze closet and moved away with her girlfriend and divorced Parker´s father. I didn’t really like Brian, I get that he was having issues of his own and was having to deal with it but he should have now better. Now, Will the Corndog was super cute and funny and I was falling in love with his character all through the story. The only thing I didn’t like in this book is too much religion but that is personal dislike for me and has nothing to do with the writing which is great.

Waiting On Wednesday (8)

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This is my choice for this week:

Let the Sky Fall (Let the Sky Fall #1)
by Shannon Messenger

Expected publication: March 5th 2013 by Simon Pulse

A broken past and a divided future can’t stop the electric connection of two teens in this “charged and romantic” (Becca Fitzpatrick), lush novel. Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.

Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.

When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand. But unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And their greatest danger is not the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them.

Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price

Summary:

Whoever said dead men tell no tales obviously never met Alex Craft.

After a month spent recovering from a vicious fight with a sorcerer, grave witch Alex Craft is ready to get back to solving murders by raising the dead. With her love life in turmoil thanks to the disappearance of Fae Investigation Bureau agent Falin Andrews and a shocking “L” word confession from Death himself, Alex is eager for the distractions of work. But her new case turns out to be a deadly challenge.

The police hire Alex to consult on a particularly strange investigation in the nature preserve south of Nekros City. The strange part: There are no corpses, only fragments of them. A serial killer is potentially on the loose, and Alex has no way to raise a shade without a body, so she’ll have to rely on the magic of others to find leads. But as she begins investigating, a creature born of the darkest magic comes after her. Someone very powerful wants to make sure the only thing she finds is a dead end—her own.

My review:

I´m really getting into this series. It is really interesting, packed with action and hot moments, with an investigation that needs puzzling and that really makes your brain work and in the end, the result will surprise you. I love books that have a good case to solve along with hot male characters and this series has all that. But, even though I like Alex, Death and Falin, my favorite character would be PC ( Prince Charming) , Alex´s cute little dog who I adore. I recommend this series to all the fans of good Urban fantasy books, you wont be dissappointed.

Sweet evil read along week 3: Truth or dare

This week we are reading from chapters 17 to 25 and I must say these are some of my favorites. But then, almost all of them arte my favs so... Since somewhere in this chapters is a very interesting game of truth or dare that lands Kai on his back ( think what you will *wink*) the topic of this weeek post will be the same. I am really a chicken,so no dares for me but I will reveal a few simple truths about me.

1. I usually read at least ten hours a day
2. I dropped  out of college on my first year,
3. I smoke at least a pack of cigarettes a day, for the last 7 years
4. I loved Twilight and I still love it. I am a sucker for love stories.
5. I managed to read first 3 books in the Harry Potter series but not the rest. I find them boring so I gave up.

That is it for this week. I know it is not much but I am a pretty boring person :)  What would you choose? Truth or dare?

Venom (Secrets of the Eternal Rose #1) by Fiona Paul

Summary:

Cassandra Caravello is one of Renaissance Venice’s lucky elite: with elegant gowns, sparkling jewels, her own lady’s maid, and a wealthy fiancé, she has everything a girl could desire. Yet ever since her parents’ death, Cassandra has felt trapped, alone in a city of water, where the dark and labyrinthine canals whisper of escape.

When Cass stumbles upon a murdered woman—practically in her own backyard—she’s drawn into a dangerous world of courtesans, killers, and secret societies. Soon, she finds herself falling for Falco, a mysterious artist with a mischievous grin... and a spectacular skill for trouble. Can Cassandra find the murderer, before he finds her? And will she stay true to her fiancé, or succumb to her uncontrollable feelings for Falco?

Beauty, love, romance, and mystery weave together in a stunning novel that’s as seductive and surprising as the city of Venice itself.

Expected publication: October 30th 2012 by Philomel

My review:

Wow… I just had to say it. Not everyone will like this book but I sure did. I threw me completely by surprise. I did expect a good book but not great. And Venom is amazing and one of the best debut novels of the year. I loved Venice in this book. I went there in high school and it is one of the most beautiful cities that I´ve ever been in. I loved the characters, the plot, the romance and the choices that Cass, the main character, made. This story is great. The murders, the mystery of it all and the suspense, the secrets and the lies, two characters falling in love in the middle of it all while they shouldn’t be talking to each other at all. Falco is an poor artist while Cass is a girl who lives in a villa, already engaded to be married to her fiancé Luca, who you cant help but not like through the book with how Cass thiks about him, but then, after the middle of the book we finally meet him and see that he is a great guy. There are plenty of things that will surprise you in this book but the ending surprised and pleased me the most. I think I´m going to die waiting ofr a year to read the sequel but I bet that it is worth the wait.

If you love solving murder puzzles and books with a steamy forbidden romance whit a 15th century Venice as a setting, you will definetly love this book. I did.

He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence has made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. Fury's Kiss (Dorina Basarab, #3) by Karen Chance + GIVEAWAY

Summary:

Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing...

Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he’s not an easy kill.

It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.

To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse than undead…

My review:

God, I missed Karen Chance´s writing so much. I adore her Cassie Palmer and Dorina series, this amazing world that she created with even more amazing characters who get under your skin. I could never decide if I liked Cassie or Dorina better since they are both great, kick – ass characters with bucket loads of courage and attitude. But Dorina somehow fascinates me more, with her dhampir nature which gets more explained in this book, about both her human and vampire side. Her father, Mircea *swoon*, is one hell of a person and vampire and we see some new sides of him I never expected to see. I was thoroughly entertained by Marlowe, he is an enigma which I hope we see some more in the future books. The there is Lous – Cesare *sigh* That dude is really yummy and sexy and fierce and skilled and charming and I could goo on about him forever. Karen Chance really creates fantastic love interests and Lous – Cesare is one of the best I had the pleasure of reading about along with Mircea ( and Pritkin ).

I thoroughly enjoyed Fury´s kiss with the intense, frustrating and nerve wrecking situations, hot romance, lots of battles and blood and plenty of surprises. I cant wait for the next Karen Chance book.

I have three swag packs to give away. One pack will include: 2 Fury´s kiss bookmarks. 1 Hunt the moon bookmark, 1 Fury´s kiss magnet and 2 trading cards – one for Dory and one for Louise – Cesare.
The giveaway is international and all you have to do is follow this blog either by GFC or by Linky and comment on this post with your email address and answer to the question-

Who is your favorite vampire character? It could be a character from a book, movie or tv series.

The giveaway will last until October 13th, 23:59 GMT and on Sunday I will randomly choose 3 winners and notify them by email. Good luck !

Grave Witch (Alex Craft #1) by Kalayna Price

Summary:

Grave witch Alex Craft can speak to the dead, but that doesn’t mean she likes what they have to say.

As a private investigator and consultant for the police, Alex Craft has seen a lot of dark magic. But even though she’s on good terms with Death himself—who happens to look fantastic in a pair of jeans—nothing has prepared her for her latest case. Alex is investigating a high profile murder when she’s attacked by the ‘shade’ she’s raising, which should be impossible. To top off her day, someone makes a serious attempt on her life, but Death saves her. Guess he likes having her around...

To solve this case Alex will have to team up with tough homicide detective Falin Andrews. Falin seems to be hiding something—though it’s certainly not his dislike of Alex—but Alex knows she needs his help to navigate the tangled webs of mortal and paranormal politics, and to track down a killer wielding a magic so malevolent, it may cost Alex her life...and her soul.

My review:

I was skeptical about this series because the reviews vary but since I won a copy of Grave witch in a giveaway, I decided to give it a chance. And, I wasnt dissappointed. I liked the dynamics of the book, the main character Alex, the world that the writer builded but especially I liked Death and Falin Andrews. They are both yummy and I honestly cannot decide who I like more, the quiet, protective and sexy Death or the brooding, frustrating and hot Fallin. Both are amazing characters and I really enjoy reading about them. Alex, the main heroine of the series, is a smart, resourceful grave witch (and something else *wink*) and I like her quips and I really liked her dog PC. I am curently halfway through book 2 and it is interesting. I am truly enjoying this series.
